What does sealing do for pavers?

Paver Sealing is meant to protect pavers from the elements (i.e. rain, sun, oil stains, etc…) and anything foreign that were to fall on them. It creates an invisible barrier on top of the pavers that repels water, oil, and anything else you might accidentally drop on your driveway or pool deck. Sealing also preserves the pavers’ natural beauty and protects the pavers for years to come!

How long does the process take?

It’s usually a 2-day process (weather permitting of course). The first day, a chemical wash is done followed by pressure cleaning with a 5,000 P.S.I pressure cleaner, getting almost anything out (stubborn penetrating stains like oil and rust may not come out). The second day, given that the surface to be sealed is completely dry, a sealer is sprayed on the pavers. One or two coats are applied depending on the need. We recommend to avoid driving vehicles over completed job until at least 24 hours after sealing is done. Pedestrians may walk on sealed surface after just a couple of hours after sealing.

When do my pavers need re-sanding?

Fine sand is the finishing touch of any paver job. It gets into the little spaces between the pavers and secures them, preventing them from moving or shifting. After pressure cleaning, sometimes sand is blasted out of place. Re-sanding is recommended where necessary. Sand secures the pavers together and does not need to be seen to do it's job. If spaces are unusually large between the pavers, they might be shifting due to damage on the edge restraints and you might be in need of some repairs.

Will sealing my pavers make then shine?

Sealing is made to protect the pavers and also to preserve their beauty. Depending on the sealer applied, it may bring about a glowing and prestigious look of the original colors. Wet-look sealer is always recommended for customer's who seek the wet-look, shiny paver look. There are also semi-gloss, Matte finish and natural-look sealers available but the costs will vary depending on the customers preference. Wet-look sealers are the most recommended and also the most pricey due to the quality, long lasting luster and protection the wet-look sealer provides.

How can you tell if you need to reseal your pavers?

A simple test can help you tell if you need sealing or not, but it’s not the only one. Turn on your water hose and watch to see if the water beads up on the surface. If water is not beading up, you need a fresh coat of paver sealer.

How often do I need to reseal my pavers?

Usually a good paver sealing job, with a good hi-grade paver sealer product should last between one and a half to two years depending on the care given to the area, the traffic, and the elements (i.e. rain, sun, vehicle traffic etc…).

My pavers were sealed but there’s a white cloudy film on the surface, can it be fixed?

Your pavers are porous. When sealer is applied to your driveway for instance, the pavers absorb it. The main cause of that white cloudy film on your pavers is trapped moisture. After pressure cleaning, if the job is not given the proper amount of time to dry completely, the sealer then traps moisture inside the paver itself. When that moisture tries to escape, it is blocked by the barrier set up by the sealer and causes that white look, which is called efflorescence. It is possible to fix this unsightly error by stripping the previous sealer and applying new sealer coatings. Quite an expensive fix, usually double the cost of the original project, but well worth it as the look will only worsen over the course of time. And yes! We provide the stripping service as well.

What to expect when you come to do repairs, pressure cleaning and sealing?

The pressure cleaning and sealing process takes two days. Repairs under one thousand square feet usually take one day (or less) to finish, unless otherwise noted. All work is done weather permitting. If we are to do work around a pool, great care will be taken in keeping your pool clean, but even though we are careful, your pool will be subject to debris (i.e. sand, dirt, etc…) from pressure cleaning, re-sanding and/or repairs. If you have a cover for the pool, we will gladly use it. We suggest, in case pool gets excessively dirty, to schedule your pool company to inspect your filters and clean your pool the day after we complete the project. We will contact you to confirm the date on which the work will began and will be completed. Thank you!
